75% attendance in government schools compulsory

The state education department on Tuesday made 75% attendance in government schools compulsory from April to September for children to be eligible for school uniforms and bicycles.

A directive in this respect was issued on Tuesday to all the district education officers, asking them to send the numbers of students having 75% attendance from April to September, by the end of September so that the money for uniforms and bicycles could be released, said the joint director, primary education, R S Singh.

An announcement in this regard had been made by education minister P K Sahi during the budget session of the state legislative assembly. Singh said the quality of education would improve with the officials ensuring 75% attendance of children in schools.
