Around 8 lakh apply for teaching in central govt schools

Around eight lakh candidates have registered for the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET), being held for the first time this year for recruitment in central government schools.

The test will be organised at 1,178 centres in 86 cities across the country, of which two are overseas. The test will be held on June 26, for which the process of dispatching admit cards has already started.

"In all 7.9 lakh candidates have been registered for this examination," said CBSE in a statement, the board responsible for conducting the test.

The Board has also uploaded candidates' information including roll number and the centre of examination, on its website www.cbse.nic.in.

A control room will be set up from June 20 for the benefit of candidates.

The test has been introduced to improve teaching standards under the RTE.
