Close to 13,000 candidates have cleared the UGC-NET test held in December last year for becoming eligible as lecturers and for the award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF).
According to the results declared yesterday, a total of 12,927 candidates qualified in the test against 7,233 candidates who qualified in the previous examination in June 2010.
As many as 3,24,468 candidates registered online, out of which 2,27,544 candidates appeared as compared to 1,89,863 candidates who appeared in the previous examination, said a statement issued by UGC.
The statement said the increased pass percentage also underscored the fact that there was an increasing interest among students to built a career in teaching.
Out of the total of 12,927 qualified candidates, 3,238 have qualified for JRF.
The number of qualified candidates under OBC and SC/ST categories is 33.06 per cent and 33.26 per cent for lectureship and 33.20 per cent and 37.
